River Tone Community Trip Boat
Last Updated on Sunday, 02 May 2010 10:26 Monday, 04 January 2010 17:38
The River Tone navigation community trip boat project will provide a purpose built electric launch, based on the River Tone in Taunton, to be managed and run by Somerset Waterways Development Trust volunteers.
This vision formed the basis of our bid for funding to the Big Lottery, to Project Taunton and to Somerset County Council. The Trust is also contributing both volunteer time and funding. Our bids were successful and the boat is under construction.
The boat will be used to run short trips on the River Tone from the centre of Taunton, and longer community and educational trips on the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal, and other waterways in Somerset. The boat will have its own trailer so that it can be moved easily, will be accessible for wheelchairs and buggies, sustainably powered and silent running, and available for schools, community groups and everyone to enjoy.
The boat will be:
- Run by trained volunteers
- Designed to carry 12 passengers
- Accessible for wheelchairs and buggies
- Sustainably powered and silent running
- Available for schools, community groups and everyone!
