The Upper Parrett Waterway Project is under way to clarify and formalise navigation rights on the River Parrett and its tributaries between Langport and Muchelney.

With a grant from South Somerset District Council, the Trust has employed a specialist consultant to review the existing situation and to advise on the best way preserve and sustain navigation rights.

The Upper Parrett Access Group has been formed to help steer this process, chaired by County and District Councillor Derek Yeomans.  Whilst the group has no executive power, it includes representatives of the authorities who can draw on resources to help, and some very knowledgeable people, enthusiastic about navigation, who will jointly pursue a satisfactory outcome.

Details of progress and the reports generated are included in the river section of the South Somerset District Council website.

The Trust is preparing an application for a grant from the Somerset Levels & Moors LARC project to progress this further.
